Nevada Driver License

Nevada driver license

The Nevada DMV puts restrictions on new drivers. Once teens earn their Nevada Driver License, they slowly earn driving privileges as they gain more driving experience. The purpose of this program is to help new Nevada drivers get comfortable behind the wheel before they drive under dangerous conditions.

Restrictions:

  • For the first three months after you obtain your Nevada Driver License you may not transport any passengers under the age of 18 unless they are immediate family members. The penalty for one violation is the extension of this restriction for a minimum of six months. Multiple violations could result in fines.
  • Drivers under the age of 18 may not drive between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Exceptions apply if they are traveling to or from a planned event such as a school event, work, or a religious activity. Law enforcement officers have the right to ask for legitimate evidence of the event. This applies to all drivers under the age of 18, regardless of the date the license was issued.

  • Nevada has a .02 blood alcohol limit for drivers under 21. All drivers can be arrested if there is an evident amount of a controlled substance in their system.

  • Driver licenses of minors can be suspended on any of the same grounds as adult licenses and also for any type of alcohol/drug conviction, firearms violation or consistent truancy.

  • It is always illegal to violate any local curfew law. This still applies if the minor is driving.

  • The parent or guardian who signed the Financial Responsibility Statement can request termination of the Nevada Driver License until the driver turns 18.
